Valleys of Neptune is a posthumous album by American psychedelic rock musician Jimi Hendrix. Released in the United States
on March 9, 2010, the album boasts "12 previously unreleased studio recordings,"including the title track, "one of the most
sought after of all of Hendrix's commercially unavailable recordings."The tracks on Valleys of Neptune were largely self-produced
by Hendrix, and received extra posthumous production from Janie Hendrix, Eddie Kramer and John McDermott for Experience Hendrix,
L.L.C.Recorded mostly in 1969 following the release of Electric Ladyland, the album predominantly features the original lineup
of The Jimi Hendrix Experience: vocalist and guitarist Hendrix, bassist Noel Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell.The lead
single released from the album was "Valleys of Neptune", on February 1, 2010, followed by "Bleeding Heart" on March 1;music
videos were produced for both songs.
The majority of the tracks featured on Valleys of Neptune were recorded in early 1969, while Hendrix was experimenting
with songs for his unfinished fourth album, following the successful release of Electric Ladyland in September 1968. Numerous
versions have been released, both officially and otherwise, and the majority of the 'previously unreleased' recordings present
on the 2010 album have been released in one form or another before, albeit sometimes in inferior quality or different versions.

'The Cry of Love' was the first Hendrix Studio album to appear after his untimely death.
Many people feel it is the only posthumous album that Hendrix
would have been satisfied with.
But even though it is a great album that assumption is not near the truth.
Hendrix' death had left a lot of recordings in various stages of completion.
A couple of songs were already mixed down to (near-) perfection, but
most of them were still incomplete.
After his passing, Michael Jeffrey (Hendrix' manager) hoped to compile three albums out
of the enormous pile of tapes that Hendrix left behind.
One of them would have to be a soundtrack album to a film called Rainbow Bridge
-a project in which Jeffrey was deeply involved- and which he was desperate to turn
into a commercial success.
However, first there would have to be a regular album containing the strongest recordings.
Jeffrey opted not to release a double album because he needed to fulfill his contractual
obligations with Warner Brothers.
Eddie Kramer, who was chief engineer of Hendrix' new Electric Lady Studio's and who had
been closely involved with the recording process until Jimi's death,
was given the unenviable task of completing the album that Hendrix had never finished.
Together with Mitch Mitchell, he went through the many tapes that Hendrix had recorded
over the past two years.
This process that must have been painful to these two people who had worked so closely
with Hendrix over the last four years.
Although a large share of tapes were not available at that point, (the sessions that
Experience had done at the TTG studio's in Oct. 1968 and many of the Record Plant
sessions from the spring and autumn of 1969 with the Band of Gypsys), it was correctly
assumed that the best material was among the works from the last six months prior
to Hendrix death.
But even though Hendrix had written some real strong material in this period, most of it
had not been fully realized on tape yet.
Therefore, Kramer and Mitchell decided to add overdubbed drum parts on some somes
and vibes to 'Drifting' (which Hendrix had considered) in an attempt to upgrade the material .
A couple more studio tricks had to be pulled to get to a more finished sounding end result,
but -unlike Alan Douglas later- Kramer and Mitchell were keen not to disrespect Jimi's wishes.
The resulting album is great but one cannot help but wonder what it would have been
had Hendrix lived.
At the same time, 'The Cry of Love' does give a complete image of the musical direction that
Hendrix was heading into, more than any other posthumous album.
Songs like "In from the storm", 'Freedom", "Drifting" -to name just a few- are masterpieces
and we should be happy that Hendrix lived to record these.
It's a shame that these songs hardly get played by those classic rock radio stations.

This sturdy American blues-rock trio from Texas consists of Billy Gibbons (guitar), Dusty Hill (bass), and Frank Beard (drums). They were formed in 1970 in and around Houston from rival bands the Moving Sidewalks (Gibbons) and American Blues (Hill and Beard). Their first two albums reflected the strong blues roots and Texas humor of the band. Their third album (Tres Hombres) gained them national attention with the hit "La Grange," a signature riff tune to this day, based on John Lee Hooker's "Boogie Chillen." Their success continued unabated throughout the '70s, culminating with the year-and-a-half-long Worldwide Texas Tour.
Exhausted from the overwhelming workload, they took a three-year break, then switched labels and returned to form with Deguello and El Loco, both harbingers of what was to come. By their next album, Eliminator, and its worldwide smash follow-up, Afterburner, they had successfully harnessed the potential of synthesizers to their patented grungy blues groove, giving their material a more contemporary edge while retaining their patented Texas style. Now sporting long beards, golf hats, and boiler suits, they met the emerging video age head-on, reducing their "message" to simple iconography. Becoming even more popular in the long run, they moved with the times while simultaneously bucking every trend that crossed their path. As genuine roots musicians, they have few peers; Gibbons is one of America's finest blues guitarists working in the arena rock idiom -- both influenced by the originators of the form and British blues-rock guitarists like Peter Green -- while Hill and Beard provide the ultimate rhythm section support.
One of the few rock & roll group with its original members still aboard after four decades, ZZ Top play music that is always instantly recognizable, eminently powerful, profoundly soulful, and 100% American in derivation. They have continued to support the blues through various means, perhaps most visibly when they were given a piece of wood from Muddy Waters' shack in Clarksdale, MS. The group members had it made into a guitar, dubbed the "Muddywood," then sent it out on tour to raise money for the Delta Blues Museum. ZZ Top's support and link to the blues remains as rock solid as the music they play. A concert CD and DVD, Live from Texas, recorded in Dallas in 2007 and featuring a still vital band, were both released in 2008. The Rick Rubin and Gibbons-produced La Futura, the band's 15th studio album, and the group's first new studio outing since 2003's Mescalero, appeared in 2012.
